art therapy information
Art Therapy is defined as a form of expressive therapy using artistic forms like drawing with paints, chalk and markers to treat the patient. Art Therapy is considered to be part of mental health modalities and is employed in a number of clinical settings and non-clinical settings with diverse target populations. Proponents believe that the creative process of art has healing and life-enhancing qualities. Practitioners use the creative process and topics that arise during treatment to help patients improve their insight and judgment and to cope better with aspects of past trauma and daily life. It is believed that Art Therapy can aid an individual in the ability to better enjoy life and develop deeper and more meaningful relationships with creativity as a major center point to emotional healing.
