Private Lessons

Offering 30-minute, 45-minute, and one-hour lessons.

What should I expect from a private lesson?

A private lesson begins with an initial observation of the student's movement habits as they perform simple or complex tasks.  To supplement this visual observation, the teacher will use her hands in a non-invasive way on the student's neck or back and shoulder area to gain information about muscle tension and breathing patterns.  Students should be prepared to discuss any issues of tension or discomfort that they would like to address in their lessons.  Once the observation is complete, the teacher will guide the student using verbal and gentle manual instructions to coax muscles into better alignment and help the student become aware of tensions and learn how to release them while involved in activity.  Concentration and a desire to change are necessary on the part of the student.  The technique is not a panacea and will only be of benefit if the student is willing to take what they experience in their lessons and apply it to their everyday lives.

$150 per person (includes mounted portion)
Improve your comfort, balance, and poise in the saddle (A weekend Workshop)

If you are looking for a way to revitalize your riding and would like to find balance and poise in the saddle, reduce pain and discomfort while riding, find more relaxation when you ride, or would like to improve your communication with your horse, the Alexander Technique for Equestrians Workshop is your answer.

In this two and half-day workshop you will be introduced to the principles of the Alexander Technique as they apply to horseback riding. The first evening will be spent becoming familiar with the basic principles of the Alexander Technique.  The second day will be spent reinforcing the principles of the Alexander Technique and applying them to simulations as well as to riding. The final day will provide participants with the opportunity to apply what they have learned, with individualized lessons.  Students will also have the opportunity to learn from their peers as they observe each rider working in the saddle.  The small class-size will allow plenty of time for personal attention and hands-on work

Introduction to the Alexander Technique for Equestrians (dismounted)

Introduces the basic principles of the Alexander technique and applies them to riding.  Students will learn techniques to apply on their own and explore balance, relaxation, and poise in the saddle with the aid of a stationary wooden "horse".

Left Holding the Reins
$100 (includes complimentary private lesson)
Left Holding the Reins

Explores letting go of tension in your shoulders, arms, wrists and hands.  Tension in any part of the arm structure can block communication between you and your horse and cause fatigue and discomfort in both the horse and rider.  Learning to release and re-balance your arm structure allows for easeful communication and improved comfort and poise in the saddle. Gentle explorations and activities will build on the skills you have already developed.  (Prerequisite:  Completion of Introduction for Equestrians or one of my 2-day Alexander Technique for Equestrians workshops, OR other equivalent experience)

Discover your Core: Part 1 (myths debunked)
$100 (includes complimentary private lesson)
Discover your Core: Part 1 (myths debunked)
A properly engaged core is important for the long-term comfort of both horse and rider.  This workshop explores one of the most misunderstood muscle groups in the body.  Learn how to identify and engage your core without unnecessary tension, allowing for a free and easy balance, lightness in the saddle, and improved communication with your horse.  (Prerequisite:  Completion of Introduction for Equestrians OR one of my 2-day Alexander Technique for Equestrians workshops, OR other equivalent experience)

Discover your Core: Part 2 (the faster gaits)
$100 (includes complimentary private lesson)
Discover your Core: Part 2 (the faster gaits)

Builds on the work done in Part One to help you maintain your free and easy core engagement at the faster gaits - "effortless" posting, a secure seated trot, and a balanced seat in the canter. (Prerequisite:  Completion of Discover your Core Part One).
