Our company’s beginnings date back to when our founder, Flora Stay --- a practicing dentist, was unable to find chemically safe toothpaste for her patients. Even the well-recognized "natural" toothpastes found in the natural products stores do not meet the strict standards she has for patients. For example, many of these more natural products contain sodium lauryl sulfate, a harsh detergent which is added to toothpastes, shampoos and other personal care products to make the products foam. Dr. Stay investigated the research on sodium lauryl sulfates and found that they may cause outbreaks of canker sores, allergies and other health concerns. She quickly realized that just because a label has "natural" on it, it does not mean it is good for you.
Dr. Stay’s attention to detail in treating patients has translated into the same painstaking process in formulating products and selecting appropriate packaging material. Many toothpaste, including "natural" ones use aluminum tubes. With time, fine cracks can leach aluminum into the paste.
