Stress & muscular tension

Stress & tension are neither good nor bad, says Pedro De Alcantara, author of "Indirect Procedure."  The problem, he explains, is when we carry the wrong amount of tension in the wrong places, for the wrong length of time.

How does the Alexander Technique approach this issue?  One of the main things that Alexander Teachers look at is the Head-Neck-Back relationship.  When this relationship is affected by imbalance, when the head is not well poised on the top of our spine, when our neck-muscles are over working, when our back is contracting instead of expanding - our whole body looses it's lightness and moves with unnecessary effort.

Happy Healthy 2010 to all of us.  May it be a year of peace and clarity.
